My Business & Career Action Plan

Any Actions or changes you have planned in this area of life can be done very slowly and smoothly.  You don’t need to suddenly quit your job or start chopping up your whole Business starting tomorrow.

If you currently have your ideal Business or Career, congratulations because you’re in the top 10% according to a poll done by Forbes Magazine that stated; “work is more often a source of frustration than fulfillment for nearly 90% of the world’s workers.”  Write down the actions that got you there, and then think about what you can do to take it to the next level.

If you’re current Business or Career is good, but nothing special, but you don’t want to change it, then thinks of what actions you can take to make it the best that it can be for you.  Maybe you just need to change your attitude about it?  Back when I was just a Divemaster, I heard other Divemaster’s complain about the weather (diving in the rain) or the dive site, or not being tipped well enough, or a handful of other things, and believe me, customers pick up on this attitude no matter how big of a fake smile they put on their face.

I didn’t care about the weather or the dive site, or anything else really – I was just excited to take people diving.  My attitude was “I’m on vacation with you, and we’re going to have a great time whether it’s raining or not!”  One day, the owner called me in, and said that he wanted me to take his 10 year old daughter (who just learned how to Scuba dive) out on the boat for a dive.  He said; “Michael, you’re the only one I trust to take my little girl diving.”  %%FIRST_NAME%% – words can’t explain the feeling of pride and fulfillment that gave me, and we had a great time.  On the way to the dive site, we ran into a pod of Dolphins, and got to jump in and snorkel with them!

However, one day my attitude got tested and I almost failed.  It was my day off, and I had a whole bunch of other things I needed to catch up on.  The manager called me and told me there was a group of return divers that just showed up, and specifically requested me to take them diving.  You’d think that would be a good confidence boost, but I remembered the group of divers, and they were the kind of people you just can’t please.  Nothing was ever good enough, it was not the people I wanted to be around the entire day.

Anyway, I load the boat with tanks and gear, and the captain and I head over in the boat to pick them up.  I wasn’t in the best of moods, and that little voice inside my head was telling me “let’s just get this over!”  When I suddenly realized what was happening, I had to tell that little voice to shut up, because me and my divers are going to have the best day ever!  That difference in attitude made all the difference in the world.  My smile was genuine (not fake) and we did have a great time.

Ability is what you’re capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you do.  Attitude determines how well you do it” – Lou Holtz

Maybe the Vision you have for your ideal Business or Career, and the current reality of your situation are no where close, and you don’t think they’ll every meet up, then you may need to make a big change, and that can be scary for anyone.  If you’re Purpose is strong enough, they it will give you the courage you need.

Regardless of where you’re starting %%FIRST_NAME%%, if you want to improve, to make more money, and bring more fulfillment in your life, the strategies are all the same.  There is a set of rituals (current actions) that you do which has created your present situation in this category.  If you want things to change, you’ll need to discover what actions need to be changed to bring about what you desire.  Ask yourself:

How can I add more value to what I do?  Can I contribute more?  Can I learn a new skill?  What can I do to become the best at what I do?

How can I fall in love with my work?  Can I improve my attitude?  Can I make anything easier or more efficient?  Can I automate anything?

When I asked myself these questions, I made the action plan below.  I make a purpose everything morning to ask myself one of these questions, and then come up with 3 intelligent, plausible answers.

Continually increase my skills by learning new things.  Everyday, I will become better and better at what I do to increase my value to myself and others.

Continually think about how I can improve what I’m currently doing to get things done better, faster and easier than before.  To think about what new disciplines can improve my performance.

Continually think about how I can better serve others.  I’ll over deliver on everything I do.  I’ll focus on giving, and contributing more to everyone without a concern for “what’s in it for me?”

Continually think about how I can increase the number of people I serve.  To think about what diversification or compliments to my existing services that will enrich the lives of my customers.

You may find yourself with some difficult decisions in this area of you life %%FIRST_NAME%%.  That can be normal, and also scary when it comes to needing changes.  Look at the Visions you have for the other blueprints of your life – does your Business or Career support them?  Look at your Financial Life, and how much money you want – does your current Business or Career have the potential to make that a reality?  How about your Relationship – does your current Business or Career support it or does it take away from it?  People dissatisfied with their work, tend to bring those problems home.

It’s all about what makes you happy %%FIRST_NAME%%?  It’s hard for someone to be happy when everyday is spent doing something they don’t enjoy to the fullest.  It’s time to look deep inside yourself, and ask yourself what you’re prepared to do to make this a reality?  When you have the answers, and these can be the basic ideas that you have for it, write those down in your Abundance Blueprint, and you can fine tune them over time.

If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” – Marc Anthony
